Light in the Lagoon, is Erwin Christian’s photo collection from his many exploration safaris through the islands of French Polynesia. The 93 colour photographs of the book bring forth Christian’s intuitive knowledge of his craft and his ability to transform photographs into vivid patterns of contrasting colours and balanced forms. Underwater, his fish portraits betray an uncanny familiarity with his subjects, who seem to have eagerly posed for him.
Light in the Lagoon, reveals to us the astounding beauty of some of the remote atolls of Polynesia in their primeval state. It allows us to glide below the surface to marvel at the fascinating inhabitants of this underwater wilderness, come up for air on an enchanted islet, or gaze in wonder at the glowing lagoon light from above through the eyes of a tropic bird.
